Brown vs. Board of Education of Topeka, KS et. al.
On May 17, 1954, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled unanimously (9-0) to overturn the doctrine of “separate but equal” in the field of public education, thereby banning public school racial segregation decreed by law. This decision of the High Court overruled the “separate but equal” doctrine the Court first upheld in the 1896 decision of Plessy vs. Ferguson.
