Explosions in Canarsie, Brooklyn
Responding to racial violence on the streets of Canarsie, Brooklyn, where whites were assaulting blacks, the New York City Civil Rights Coalition led candlelit vigils and a unity walk-through the streets of Canarsie. Our marchers were jeered, and eggs were tossed at us, neighborhood ruffians dogged our every step. But NYPD kept them at bay, and cleared the paths for our marchers to proceed.
